This week has been all about freedom for us. Getting out and about and realising that now that breastfeeding is established all we need is to throw a couple of nappies in a bag and maybe a packet of wipes and we’re good to go.

On Sunday we even made it to the zoo for a day out. It had been over a year since we brought Little Man to the zoo so he was excited to go. Early in the morning I packed up a picnic and off we went. Charlie was away for the day, so my mother was with us instead.

We brought the buggy and carry cot insert and I threw my Moby D wrap into the car just in case.

It was so busy when we got there – Bank Holiday weekend of course. We queued for an hour to get our new yearly pass. Little Woman wouldn’t settle in the carry cot so I popped her in the sling. She was comfy in there and slept for most of the rest of the day. I just took her out twice for nappy changes and feeds. In the end the buggy was used for carrying our bags, and much later in the day after several hours of walking, we ended up using it to give Little Man a rest.

It was a great day for Little Man – I think it showed him that this new arrival doesn’t stop us from getting out and doing fun things. Or maybe it was me who learned that?!

The rest of the week passed quickly. We had one night where Little Woman was awake for hours in the middle of the night and it was exhausting. But the rest of the week she just woke for one or two feeds and settled back to sleep.

We can see some changes in her this week – a few smiles escaping here and there and even the occasional laugh.

She’s continuing to feed well and I’m delighted to report that the feeds continue to be pain free. At the end of the week, we had her six week checkup and she weighed in at a hefty 4.3kg. That’s 9lbs 7oz for those of you who have no clue what kilos mean in relation to baby weights (like me!). A great increase from her 3.1kg (6lb 13oz) birth weight. I get such a sense of satisfaction from seeing how big she’s getting. All that hassle establishing the feeding – it seems worth it now to look at her and see how well she’s doing. :)
